is it easy to speak in spanish

Question

Hello my name is Maya and my dad and grandma is spanish and English and I want to know how to speak spanish because I want to talk to my aunt but she only speaks spanish and I wonder if it is hard to speak it.

Sapnish is good because the sounds of the letters are always the same. Only learn a little bit each day for five minutes and try to remembere it the next day. Hasta la vista - KeithWheeler, May 26, 2011

If you want to go head a take a shot at it. It was difficult for me. It is hard for everyone who does something for the first time but you will get use to it.

It is not too hard i was brought up in canada so my parents never really taught me, and now they are like you don't speak enough spanish. I'm like i wonder why but i have a cousin i just met who only speaks spanish im lucky i have learned french for 7 yrs because it helps to know how to conjugate words but in the end no i its not all languages seem difficult at first but it gets mush easier once you understand the basics of spanish you will hear some words that are very similar in many languages for ex. french , punjabi even farsi they all connect. Hope you will learn and enjoy talking to your aunt it is worth it this website is really good and maybe you can teach her some english using the webiste. Im sure she would love to learn a different language too

I highly recommend talking to another relative who is bilingual. That's what I have done, and I've gone from being beginner "Cómo está usted?" to intermediate and basic conversations in weeks.

I have found it quite easy to learn enough to order a meal, tell people my name and where I come from etc.

In other words phrasebook Spanish.

It is more difficult to learn the actual rules of grammar, so I can construct my own sentences correctly instead of using ones learnt off by heart. But I hope it will be worth it when I can join in a conversation instead of sitting quietly looking lost.

By the way some people here are learnig English so it helps if we all try to use correct grammar and puntuation in our posts.

If you learn just a little Spanish, your aunt will probably be so pleased, it will help you learn a lot more. There are Spanish lessons at the top of this page. Click on Learn Spanish then start with Learn Spanish 1.

The rules are hard to learn. I'm mexican and sometimes I get in troubles stressing words.

Well it's easier than most other languages. It's certainly the easiest language I've ever been learning.

What Dillon said is about right, if you study really really hard you will be speaking to your aunt in no time

It depends how much you want to learn. Yes, it is very hard to become fluent, but to just speak a little it isn't that bad. Just make sure you completely understand what you are doing before you move on to the next topic.
