Yo qué sé..........

Yo qué sé..........

What do I know? I was told this Can NOT be used as a standalone but must follow something else, like this: Yo qué sé..........no sé nada.

OR

Yo qué sé..........a mí no me importa.

Is that right? I can't just say "Eh, pues, Yo qué sé.........." because we end a sentence with "well, what do I know?" all the time in English (most of family is Jewish you see).

Why wd you say "yo" before "que"? In English it wd be the sentence " I what know". - Marsviking, May 25, 2011
I can see "que se yo?". - Marsviking, May 25, 2011

I don´t see any problem using this as a stand-alone phrase because it is usually in answer to a previous, corresponding statement or question. ¿Yo qué sé? is a complete sentence.

That sounds like a peculiar "rule" to me: I certainly use and say "¡Y yo qué sé!" >shrug< often enough, and leave it at that.
