In the following sentence: "creo que todas las culturas latinoamericanas tienen muchísmo de donde sacar provecho," why is "muchísimo" singular when it follows the verb "tienen". Thanks for any clarification and enlightenment you can give.

Mucho/muchísimo can be a adjective or an adverb. As an adjective, it must agree with the noun:

mucho calor

mucha leche

muchos libros

muchas personas

As an adverb, they do not modify any noun, and they are invariable: always mucho/muchísimo:

Me gusta mucho.

Vamos mucho a Madrid.

Adjectives modify nouns, adverbs modify verbs. But it this case "Tienen muchisimo de donde sacar provecho", it is a noun meaning "a lot". - margaretcorwin, May 25, 2011

The muchísimo does not agree with the person, rather with the thing that is being talked about.

Tengo mucho calor. You'd not say tienen muchos calor(es) now would you grin

"Muchos calores" is the correct option in terms of agreement; the problem with this sentence is its meaning. - lazarus1907, May 25, 2011
