Que es el sindrome de laron?

I was watching 'Aqui y ahora' on TLN and they were talking about a remote area of southern Ecuador - where many people and their descendants have this 'sindrome' which is caused by a gene mutation. These people fail to grow. Would this be the same as dwarfism?

Dwarfism is a generic term that covers a multitude of types of genetic problems resulting in abnormally small size. And, yes, Laron Syndrome is one kind of dwarfism.
