Well, there are no double ss in Spanish. The only double letters are rr, cc, and ll so this must be an Italian word combined with Spanish "del Mar".

It is more likely to be Catalan surely, as it is in Catalonia. . - MaryMcc, May 24, 2011
Catalonian, not Italian. - lazarus1907, May 24, 2011

I am not too sure it means anything other than the name of a place. I know it is

a municipality in Catalonia, Spain, on the Costa Brava,
