Traditionally an afternoon nap taken after lunch . The idea is that the major heat of the sun is in the afternoon. That's probably also why the Spanish work/shop hours are staggered. Some shops will close from 1pm to 4pm and then stay open until 8pm presumably because those are the cooler hours in summer
