Tosh is right. Also, esté is one of the subjunctive forms of the verb estar. To learn about the subjunctive, look here.

A very short answer would be that:

"estar" is the infinitive form of the verb "to be".

"este" means "this" when talking about a masculine thing... as in "este carro" or "this car".

"esta" means "this" when talking about a feminine thing... as in "esta casa" or "this house".

"está" (with an accent over the a) is a form of the verb "estar".
