Recommendable universities in Argentina

Hi there, this time my question is addressed to the specific target group, mainly those who live in, have studied or simply know something about the higher-education system in Argentina. You see, I am pondering, very loosely for the time being, taking up doctoral studies in Argentina. Do you know which university is worth taking into account, especially in terms of their ethnology (or linguistic) departments...? Are state universities generally considered to by of higher quality than the private ones? Are scholarly titles conferred there recognized worldwide? And what are the requirements when it comes to your command of the Spanish language?

If you have a second to spare, feel free to have your say. I will greatly appreciate it and, I promise, I will vote for each answer of yours, jeje tongue wink

I know that I could write directly to the universities but, first, I would like to know which ones to write to wink

This is interesting to me to, because I recently had to give up hope of ever being able to afford to study at home in Ireland again, but maybe I could afford to go to College in a Spanish speaking country? - rabbitwho, May 20, 2011
A friend of mine is having big problems getting here Spanish degree recognised in Brazil, and her husband's Brazilian degree isn't recognised in Spain, but I don't know if that's relevant to Argentina and your question. - rabbitwho, May 20, 2011
By "here" you mean Ireland, right? That's bad news :( - bomberapolaca, May 20, 2011
By here I meant "her" *blush* "Here" is Spain. - rabbitwho, May 30, 2011

I'll ask an Argentinian friend of mine to see if he knows something, but ethnology has to do with races, while linguistics has to do with languages, but you mention them as if they were synonyms. I personally know ethnologists with little knowledge of linguistics and vice-versa (as well as people with both, of course).

Thanks Lazarus, I am looking forward to hearing from you. No, obviously, the subjects are not the same (not so much, though). But I am interested in linguistics AND ethnology. Sorry for the misunderstanding. - bomberapolaca, May 21, 2011

Guys, stop it. Behave yourselves! Take your turn and speak out. Everybody should have the chance to have their say raspberry

I used to work with someone from Argentina. She said that degrees from there were not normally recognized outside of South America and often not outside of the country. That was many years ago though, so things have probably changed.

Don´t be so down it is a difficult question as the educational systems differ greatly, this disparity is the issue. - pacofinkler, Jun 1, 2011

Hm, I was convinced that some Argentines would provide some first-hand info but I turned out to be wrong. Okay, I will simply surf the Internet. smirk
