Just out of curiosity, are any of you guys paid employees of Spanishdict.com? Sorry, I dont want to appear nosey, its just that some people on here (Heidita, Lazarus - just to name 2, there are many others) are so helpful and knowledgeable I just assumed you were site employees.

Not only that, but the amount of time and effort some people spend on here is astonishing. I work in computing, so quite often have 10 minutes here and there to browse the web throughout most of the day. It seems every time I take a look at this site, one of you guys have been busy correcting\advising etc. If you aren't paid, how do you find the time to actually work lol?

I hope my question doesn't come across wrongly - it is not a criticism, its actually a complement! You guys on here are so dedicated to the cause its fantastic. I am learning so much, and really appreciate all the help I receive on here.

You're right, they are amazing smile.

Lazarus is one of our most knowledgeable members, but he is not a mod. - 00494d19, May 20, 2011
I know that Laz isn't a mod, but as Billy specifically named Laz to ask if he was paid, I thought it best to include him in the list of names - --Jen--, May 20, 2011

Please add my thanks and appreciation to the heap ... now; is this site financed solely from ad revenue? Are donations to defray costs accepted? Having spent many hours providing software for others (simply because they asked), I am quite happy to offer some pittance for an excellent site like this. alt text

No it's an honest question and thanks for bringing this to light. I'm sure others have thought it and just didn't know how to go about asking. smile I will say that there are some amazing people on here, Jen being one of them, that bust their butts to make this site a great one and I definitley want to say thank you!! I know billy, this wasn't your question but I needed to get that out. The list is huge but a few more great people are DJ, Vaanz, Web, Sandy, Gekk, Lovely, Gary....and on and on. I know there are many more but maybe somebody could pick up where I left off?!! Abrazos wink

Maybe: "Siempre es un placer verte/oír de ti en mis hilos" (no need for "para" here) - Izanoni1, May 19, 2011
Can't forget Cogumela, Tom Burgos, Marshall Hendrix along with several others not yet mentioned :) - EL_MAG0, May 20, 2011

When I joined almost a year ago, I thought of the same question. I didn't ask because I figured I would find out anyway.

Well, I found out. I got sucked in. For me, helping others is such an effective way to keep learned skills fresh, that I spent half of my time helping others.

It's no longer a mystery.

most are unpaid.

All moderators on this forum are unpaid (except Christopher, the web-owner, and Paralee, employee).

IN any case, there are so many people who help out that this forum could not exist without those knowledgeable and helpful people. grin

It is not easy at times, but we always try to be fair and friendly.smile

I meant on most forums. On the forum I moderate on people sometimes get annoyed if we are not there all the time, I don't think they realise we are all volunteers. And you are right it would be no good without the members too. - MaryMcc, May 20, 2011

A very good question, no site could operate without its moderators and most are unpaid.

I must say the moderating I have seen on here has been very polite and very fair, not always easy, I know how hard it can be, I moderate on a forum too. About ferrets in case you didn't guess.

Thanks guys you have really helped my confidence in my Spanish the last few weeks.

There are many people who do a lot of things sort of behind the screen on a daily basis. smile

Please, this question was about moderators, here called Admins, if we start mentioning names, we will sure leave out some that do a lot of work and will feel they were not mentioned.

That is the reason why we normally do not allow this kind of thread, in the rules it is clearly stated that all admins except the two mentioned above, are volunteers.

I totally get this now. Amor y paz, Heidita is not targeting you just because her post was directly after yours. That is just a coincidence. - GuitarWarrior, May 20, 2011
Thank you. Everything is cool. :) - EL_MAG0, May 20, 2011

Just to pick up where this thread has left off. Everybody whose names have been mentioned so far are awesome people.

I would like to make mention of other volunteers whose names have not yet been mentioned in this thread.

Cogumela and Tom Burgos smile They are awesome people and I love them. This site would not be a very good place for beginners to practice Spanish if it were not for the corrections being made.

I am very grateful to everybody involved with making this site an awesome learning tool. I even appreciate all the beginners posting questions and answers. In short, I love you all but I felt compelled to mention those two names because I know they devote much time and it is for a good cause.

Amor y paz

Thank you so much for all u do! I love the sense of community here. You are all awesome. I truly enjoy the diversity of different Latin American cultures coming together to help others. Although I grew up speaking English, I embrace my beautiful, colorful Puerto Rican roots!

Incase I did not make it clear enough in my last post.

Tengo que decir, los quiero mucho. I love you all smile

I had already acknowledged the mentioning of names, admin and non admin alike. I thought I had extended my grattitude to every name already mentioned at the same time giving thanks to those devoting time to make corrections. And even expressing my grattitude to my peers as beginners for posting questions and answers. I really do not want to be mis-understood. Please allow me to say it again.

I love you all!!!

Thank you

Amor y paz

I can't believe the amount of work some put in by people on this site.

I wish the site made enough money to employ more people.

I know another site which recommends related books on amazon, so they get paid referral money when people buy the books, and people were going to buy Spanish books anyway so it seems fair.

Then of course there are sites where you can pay a small fee every year in order to support the site and in exchange for not having to view any ads.

I just wanted to add my voice of appreciation to all those Spanishdict Volunteers. I had no idea that this was being done gratis. Talk about a labour of love!

Thank you so much. There is no question that this is the # 1 Spanish learning website. I have tried to find others without any success.

Keep up the good work. Hopefully you can all get me up to a standard where I too will be able to devote some time to helping out. grin

Guess that will not be anytime soon....lol
