Help with "de forma sentenciosa"

I'm getting lost here I suspect there is more to "de forma sentenciosa" than I know and I can't seem to get the sentence right.

Algunos personajes de sus novelas relatan a los jo?venes, de forma sentenciosa, el sentido de la madurez.

Some of the characters in his novels depict young people/judgementally/in a deeply felt way/profoundly/ the sense/quality of maturity

Would it be representan for depict rather than relatan (relate/recount)?

And how about self-righteous for sentencioso?

I think I probably got it wrong. I'm translating Algunos personajes de sus novelas relatan a los jo?venes, de forma sentenciosa, el sentido de la madurez. now as

Some characters in his novels self-righteously/judgementally tell the young people about a sense of maturity.

This is driving me nuts!! It still doesn't seem right.

Thanks for the reply. My brain isn't working well at the moment.

Self righteous might be good. What I'm doing with relatan is to try to get the sense of something like he tells/recounts the characters... into a more English way. The lost feeling here for me is , he isn't telling the youthful characters to have this maturity but is giving them it or have I completely misunderstood the sentence...a definite possibilitygrin

relatan could well work, I was really asking more than stating lol, hopefully you'll get someone who knows what they're talking about - calling all natives lol :) - Kiwi-Girl, May 19, 2011
