Host Family Gifts

I'm a high school student traveling to Mexico (the Yucatán) this summer for several weeks. I'd like to give the host family I'm staying with some gifts from the states, but I've hit a bit of a roadblock.
Since I live in the Midwest, I thought I'd go for maple syrup and make pancakes one morning...does anyone know if pancakes are standard Mexican breakfast food? Or does anyone have any other lovely ideas?

I have traveled the world and I think that pancakes are only standard breakfast food in the U.S. You could also bring some pancake mix to be on the safe side (a small box of Bisquick if you can't find anything more upscale.)
