Hey EK I googled Colombia and 'ponerse trucha' and found a newspaper article that used the saying to mean 'on the ball' - I'm not sure if that works for your situation though?

Good question - I've read that ponerse trucha can mean different things regionally - from being or getting ready to having your eyes open? I hope someone else can shed a bit more light on the matter for you
