Well, just how "simple" do you want it to sound or read?

¿De dónde eres? =o= ¿Cuál es el país de donde vienen Uds.?

¿Adónde vas? =o= ¿Ahí es a donde vamos?

Something like that perhaps? Just a few examples....

What do you mean "sounding dumb"?

Adonde vas? sounds perfectly normal in Spanish. True, when translated into English "To where do you go?" sounds overly formal, but in Spanish it's can be completely casual. Techically, in English we're supposed to say "To where do you go?" instead of "Where do you go to?", but because languages change, the latter sounds a bit more natural.
