Are they, in a way, asking if I'm here? Or estas durmiendo?

Is that asking if I'm sleeping or is that a statment that they know I am sleeping.

the "estas durmiendo" was something they wrote, by it'self. I figured they were asking if I was alseep! hahaha - twitterchick, May 16, 2011
"Estas durmiendo" = a statement ¿Estás durmiendo? is a question. Rising Intonation in the voice is needed when speaking it as a question. - ian-hill, May 16, 2011
Thank,s Ian! That helps so much! I find most Spanish speaking people don't use punctuation very often, so it makes it harder to understand what the inflection is. Thank you! - twitterchick, May 16, 2011

Hi, Twitter Chick. Welcome to the forum.

I don't know where you got the idea that the person was talking about sleep, but if someone says, ¿Estás? it generally means "Are you there?"

Right! Are you there? Specially when they are waiting for you to chat.
