Why is this wrong? - Grammar exercise

I don't see what in the sentence tells me it's "I went" and not "S/he went" ñ

The confusion comes from the fact that the preterite for ser & ir are the same. The verb used in here was ser, not ir.

If it was ir, it would require the preposition a, thus, El lunes fui a la fiesta del colegio.

Nobody went.

It is saying "Monday was the college's party.

The verb to conjugate is not ir but ser bearing in mind both verbs are the same in the preterite tense.

Is it saying that the Monday is the fiesta,and not on Monday i went to the fiesta,just a thought but i would have answered the same as you,only now you have said it is wrong

The key is the tiny word "a" meaning "to"--it would have to be in the test item to indicate that someone went to the party rather than just saying when the party occurred. Oh, those tiny words are so important sometimes!
