The adverbs allí and ahí

Question

What is the difference between these 2 words please? I've checked in Reference Section and Dictionary and I cant really see the difference.

You may need one of our a linguistic experts to explain the difference but I am sure they are not completely interchangeable as each will have its own "nuance" in Spanish. Example,

Ahí can mean "más o menos" which I am sure allí cannot in the following phrase.

¿Cómo sigue tu abuelo? - Ahí anda.

How's your grandfather getting on? - Oh, so-so.

The basic adverbs of place in Spanish are aquí (here), ahí (there [near the person spoken to]), and allí (there [not near the speakeror the person spoken to]).

I will put you an example. I am here at home. You are there (ahí ) at the entrance of my home. And he is there (allí ) on the other side of the street. . Yo estoy aquí en mi hogar .tu estás ahí en la entrada de mi hogar.y él está allí en el otro lado de la calle.
