Dedicas
I am in Peru and my spanish teacher says dedicas = profession . but the translation page says dedicas = spend while my english/spanish diccionario doesn't have the word dedicas but it says spend = gastar. Is this one of those special peruvian words or something like that?
After googling dedicas and peru I found that 'te que dedicas' in peru means 1. what do you do; Synonyms: en qué trabajas so I guess that it is just one of those special words.

"¿A qué te dedicas? is a common and polite way of asking, "What do you do for a living?"
bmike, "dedicas" is the second person singular (familiar) of the verb "dedicar" and can be used to refer to a profession.
the phrase "¿A qué te dedicas?" means "What do you do (in your job)?"
Check the verb "dedicar" in the dictionary. I've heard it used like that.
i get it... dedicar = dedication == what work are you dedicated to.
That's indeed the idea, but the verb is "dedicarse", and it means to have a profession or activity (even a hobby). It is followed by a "a" plus the job or hobby.
Your question is about "te dedicas" (to devote oneself into..., to work as a...), not "dedicas" (to dedicate).
i get it... dedicar = dedication == what work are you dedicated to.
