Can any native Spanish speakers (preferably from Mexico) help out with this one? Does this phrase translate?

Yes this is correct:) - FELIZ77, May 11, 2011
Estoy de acuerdo con esta respuesta. "Estoy a punto de,," and also "al punto de.." for something like "just about to..." - DreSmith3, Jul 18, 2012

According to the text for my Advanced Spanish Grammar and Composition class, Estoy por... actually means "I'm in favor of..." To express "to be about to", use the combination estar para + infinitive verb. I hope this helps. If not, blame Spanish for Oral and Written Review por Mario Iglesias y Walter Meiden. smile

Tienes razón. Acabo de repetir tu respuesta. - Eddy, Jul 18, 2012
Estar por can mean to be in favor of something. But in this case (to be about to do something) you need por and not para. Ex: Estoy por terminar la universidad. Estoy por salir. - francobollo, Jul 19, 2012

Estar para + infinitivo

Por ejemplo

The train is about to leave - El tren está para salir

El tren está por salir. Para is not correct in this case. - francobollo, Jul 19, 2012
Estar para salir is correct in Spain. I believe they use "por" in Latin America. - Eddy, Jul 19, 2012
Also in Spain, "salir para" means to set off or depart. - Eddy, Jul 19, 2012
