SpanishDict is not working with Firefox or Google Chrome??!

Hi everybody smile

I was answering a question lately and suddenly the website stopped downloading and all I have is a white page!!

I've tried to reload a couple of times but nothing works!

I've tried Google Chrome and it has the same problem, and now I'm using ie :(

I was wondering if you're having the same problem?

P.S: I was trying to write a sentence using all caps and when Firefox didn't work, I tried the same thing with Google Chrome (stupid me red face ) maybe that's the reason ? The system crashed or something?

Hello Lovely smile

I can access SpanishDict with Google Chrome but the pages are not displaying correctly I am not usre if this is because I have not currently set it as my default browser. Words are not appearing in their usual places but are often superimposed across other words very weird ! confused rolleyes grrr

I hope that helps smile grin grin

One possibility (from a retired systems programmer); in Firefox, the escape key = STOP. Hitting it inadvertently might leave you "stopped" - and if combined with some other keyboard shortcut, might require you to re-boot your computer to get out of some "setting bind".

I did the same thing once lovely wink. I was trying everything once when I was trying to answer Heidi's missing vowels thread, and then I realised that if you write with capitals and hyphens L-I- K-E T-H -I-S, it still considers it shouting raspberry...oops.

Chrome and Firefox work fine for me smile.

lol but Jen yesterday I tried to use all caps and it worked with no problems! - 00b6f46c, May 10, 2011
Sometimes you can post all caps, other times it won't let you post three caps in a row at all. The system is a bit silly :P. - --Jen--, May 10, 2011

Hi Lovely. I have firefox. It is working OK. Have you tried restarting. That is always the first step for me.

I tried that but it didn't work, and I re- downloaded my Firefox version and it still doesn't work, thanks :) - 00b6f46c, May 10, 2011
No me gustan estas computadoras - sanlee, May 10, 2011
Maybe you need to log out of SD and then restart. Then log back in. - sanlee, May 10, 2011
Sanlee all I see is a white blank nothing but the url in the page :( - 00b6f46c, May 10, 2011

You could always try the standard, "turn off and on" procedure. And if that doesn't work, turn the computer off and on again. wink

But I'm not sure why the browser would just stop working like that.

Lo siento...

I'm using Firefox 4.0.1 and I'm not having any issues. Do you have this latest version?

Have you tried clearing your cache and cookies, lovely? That should always be the next thing after pressing F5 (or "reload").

I use Google chrome almost exclusively (there's a couple of sites I use that absolutely demand IE). - webdunce, May 10, 2011
Anyway, I am having no issues with SD, except that in Google Chrome I must frequently hit F5 as I often get told a page doesn't exist on the first try. Annoying! - webdunce, May 10, 2011
Thanks I'll try :) - 00b6f46c, May 10, 2011

As it appears , this happened some time ago, I always work with two browsers, both of them work fine at this moment.

Thanks for letting us know, lovelysmile

The new ads have an obvious immense memory leak (or something that mimics the effect of a memory leak), they are severely affecting the site's performance. I never advocate ad blockers, but I may get one soon. In the meantime I have been just not coming here much hoping the ad situation would get fixed. It means: blank screens, not loading properly, system hang, firefox, chrome hang, it sucks.

PS Reloading the site makes it work well for about 2 minutes before it starts to slow down and then crash and lockup. Only on this site. Close and reload browser = works again for about 2 minutes. Also the ads randomly play videos without my consent rather loudly while I attempt to do other things IE listen to music or watch Spanish videos.

This happened to me a few minutes ago. I believe there might be a problem with one of the ads on SD, which might explain why the problem occurs randomly. The specific error I received was related to a plug-in that was being called by an ad on the page. This is the first time it has happened. I killed the process and started over. SD probably has no domain over the ad suppliers, but that could be what happened to you.

So Firefox only worked when I started a private browsing! surprised

I still can't figure out the reason though!
