In English, you "take" classes. Not so in Spanish. The closest equivalent to that English phrase is probably "cursar una asignatura/materia." As a University student in Spain, I spoke with my friends about classes using other verbs as well. We had classes: "Tengo seis clases/materias/asignaturas este trimestre." Or we were enrolled in classes: "Estoy matriculado en seis clases." The verb "tomar" in this context is an Anglicism, an unidiomatic borrowing from English. It is also jarring, since "tomar" ususally means to take food or drink. You will hear this misuse of "tomar" from Spanish speakers living in the US who have allowed English to exert undue influence over their native tongue.

dm, you can use the machine translator on this site for that phrase. It does not sound like a good sentence in English, though. I would look for "I am taking a class" or "I took a class" or "I have a class".
