"Little Bird" as a pet name?

Say a girl's sort of pet name was 'little bird'. Would you call her 'pájarita'? that sounds right to me but my friend says 'avita' is right, and ANOTHER friend says 'avite' because ave ends in e, not o/a. Please help?

Pajarita would be correct. (without tilde).
Diminutive of ave is "avecita" but that would sound weird

I would say pajarito, but avecito is also right it's just a matter of preference. If you knew it was a girl then it would be avecita/pajarita
