When to use the personal "a"

Please explain when to use the personal "a."

In general, in front of direct objects that are people or pets.

Examples

I see the tree = Veo el árbol. (tree is the direct object and is not a person or pet)

I see Bob = Veo a Bob. (Bob is the direct object and is a person)

I don't see anybody = No veo a nadie. (Nadie is the direct object and represents a person)

I see a dog = Veo un perro. (dog is the direct object, but it is just some random dog)

I see my dog. = Veo a mi perro. (dog is the direct object and it is my pet)

I see your dog. Veo a tu perro. (dog is the direct object and it is your pet)

There are cases when you don't use personal a with people, but I can't recall them right now.
