How would you say "on task" in Spanish? En tarea?

I need to discuss with a parent the amount of time her child spends "on task" - or doing what he is supposed to be doing according to the directions of his teacher. Should I refer to this as "tiempo en tarea"?

Thanks - your feedback is much appreciated!

Tarea is the usual for homework or task.

The best I can manage for the moment is " el tiempo de trabajo' for on task.

Hopefully we will have a native speaker answer.
