last night I told my friends that I'm learning Spanish and they asked me what did I learn I told them and I also told them that when you don't want something you have to say no twice and they told me no you don't have to say it twice.

I think this might be what you're referring to. When someone poses a yes/no question to you and the answer is no, you repeat the word no. For example:
¿Vives en California? No, no vivo en California.
¿Te gusta ir de compras? No, no me gusta ir de compras.
¿Tienes hermanos? No, no tengo hermanos.
If you don't want something, you just say I don't want it and that's it. You say No or No quiero
