"Si pudiera dejar una asignatura, dejaría..." "If you could drop any subject, it would be..."
It sounds like that sentence is talking about which subject in school you would drop if you had an option. "dejar" is in the conditional form, stating that you "would" have done it IF it were possible, but it's not. Since it's not possible, "poder" should be in the imperfect subjunctive.
Here's a good rule of thumb. When you have a sentence stating that you WOULD do something IF something else were possible, then the verb after "if" is in the imperfect subjunctive, and the verb that you "would do" should be in the conditional tense.
The future tense uses the same verb stems, but is slightly different and does not use the subjunctive. That's a different story, but it was worth mentioning because it's similar. I'll leave the rest up to you to research.
