If you don't follow your dreams , you might as well be a vegetable. For Jenny:)
The other day I was looking for films and found in a thread, I think recommended by Echoline, this wonderful movie (from which the itle of this thread has been taken) which I would never have thought of watching otherwise, even though I just love Anthony Hopkins.
So there is this old man following his dream ....and I thought of how our Jenny (nametaken) has followed her dream and got there...![]()
For those who don't know her, this is the thread to read, she underwent this extreme treatment and fought for her life ....we often talked, Marianne and I , and we sometimes couldn't help but thinking she was not going to make it![]()
But she is a fighter as her mother said over and over, just like this old man in the film
and she made it through that terribly hard treatment![]()
Now she is up and about, first step was to get out of bed, then into a wheel chair, now she is actually riding around in her parent's car, buying stuff, making us laugh and thinking about buying gorgeous shoes, because she says that it is the moment now to wear gorgeous shoes....as she does not need to walk in them yet, those terribly high heels won't bother her
jeje
We talk every day, we call ourselves the four musketeers, Marianne, Gary, Jenny and I and we feel like family![]()
Her life is busy now, she sometimes just pops by, ( traitor!!
), to say hi and zaas, out and about she is again
now you tell me...have a friend for that!!!
jeje
Well, she followed her dream and she made it. Her highlight in life is not just talking to silly-us any more....which was our dream, we so wanted to see her make it, see all there is to life, not only silly people like us, jeje, and now she has the chance to see it all.
The day will come when she will be really busy with her friends, at college....and no more daily skippi talks or probably Picture of the Day threads. It should be like that and that will make us really happy![]()
In the meantime I will continue picking on her, calling her names, making her speak Spanish..., you know, being my usual lovely self![]()
And what I also know, ladies and gentlemen, is that even though she would probably have made it anyway.... your help and support was essential to get to this goal faster at least. All those letters you wrote to her, all those presents she got from you....all that kindness displayed by all those dozens of members who asked us for her mail to send her letters. All that has been priceless.
I don't want to mention names, there are so many....but I think one name must be mentioned.
The kindness and generosity shown by our Cathy (Echoline) who sent her that lovely robe Jenny is still talking about has been so exemplary, I just need to say it again.
(For those who have no idea what I am talking about, look at the robe, signed by all members of the forum
)
Anyway, I was just thinking when I saw that lovely film, Jenny, how good for you to have followed your dream![]()

My dearest Jen,
I couldn't be any happier for you if I tried, and am so thankful that we, your friends here at SD, have the privilege of fighting with you through this long battle. What wonderful rewards you have reaped over the past couple of months, and my heart leaps with joy when I imagine the steps you'll be taking in the near future...and on and on, a little further and a little further until you reach the day that you can say for sure and certain that it has all been worth it.
your friend,
cathy. (echoline, who wishes that she could take credit for recommending the movie, but for the sake of honesty must say that it was not me.)
Here are some Jimmy Choo's for you Jenny!

No doubt, if anyone is an inpiration it is Jen. What a nice post Heidi and right on target with that movie. I wish I was a writer instead of a yesero, there is so much I would like to express. Those three girls get to talk everyday and unfortunately I'm not as lucky but whenever I do my day is so much better. There is a common saying these days usually only heard between women but since I'm not worried about my masculinity and, well, one of the 4 musketeers, then what the hell, "Jen, you go girl!" ![]()
I think Heidi and others have expressed it all so well, I don't know what I can add.
I suppose I'll just tell you that I too am delighted that you're now getting the rewards for your perseverance, patience and strength. Plus, because you chose to come to SD rather than moping around and filling your time with trivia, you now have a wonderful skill which you'll always be able to enjoy.
Lots of love,
Sally ![]()
Jen, I am so happy for you. Your progress is wonderful and so inspiring for everyone. It gives people hope. You are such a great example for everyone and I am so glad that I have been a witness to this. I look forward to your future. In fact, I would love to see a book and movie about you.. It would be a great one.!
Yes Jenny, you are an inspiration to all of us!! Life is not always fair. We all have a choice as to how we are going to live it. You are an excellent example for me. ![]()
If everyone followed their dreams and lived above their trials the way you do, what a beautiful world this would be!!!! ![]()
I saw this on the highway, on the way to your house. ![]()

Dear Jen: Even without looking I knew it had to be about "The Indian" that he took to the salt flats. No one believed in his ability to create this fast machine. But he did. It does help to have believers in your life. He found several along the way. Another film like this is "The Straight Story". He went 300 miles to see a brother that he had fallen out of grace with 10 years earlier. No one believed this "old geyser" could make it driving a John Deer lawn mower! But again, he found kindness and goodness from people along the way of his dream of making peace with his brother. His determination to do it in his way was his best ally. Always know, that you will be in the minds and hearts of many, many people; including your SD on-line family.

This just makes me think about the many threads we have about the struggles of learning a new language. It is great when members share their frustrations and their various victories, etc.
But then, thinking of Jenny....her struggles and her victories are that much more magnified because of the physical limitations she experiences.
So whenever you are tempted to "throw in the towel" or give up because you can't remember the conjugation of a verb or because you can't understand what someone has just said to you in Spanish, just stop and think of our friend Jenny in her fancy shoes.....and I know you will be inspired!

These are the shoes I wear when I am studying Jen. They are in honor of my favorite penguin lover!!!

When I think of Jen, I think of this ---
I believe I can fly....I believe I can touch the sky....spread my wings and touch the sky...there are miracles in life that I must achieve-- Seal
