Texas vs. Chile

Texas vs. Chile

Wow, has anyone ever noticed that Texas totally jacked Chile for there flag!?! big surprise Look at the similarity below, and think about if you were in public in the US and just saw the Chile flag someone would say, "oh that's Texas". This is an interesting discovery I made while designing the upcoming radio section. I was attaching the flag of Chile, and was though, "Wait a minute, that's the Texas flag. Is this an error?" But with some quick research, I was quickly informed Texas would be the copycat in this case and is even rumored to have stole the "Texas motto" from Chile. Hope y'all enjoy this as much as I did.

Do you know of any flag look alikes? If so, post it here, this has struck my curiousity nerve. grin

wow

Mason, why don't you add your flag here, we don't have Texas yet http://www.spanishdict.com/answers/123188/banderas-del-mundo/mostvotes/15/30#answers - Yeser007, May 3, 2011

Wow, those are really similar too! Lol, you could too easily see one and be like, "oh, that's the other..." only problem is, over there, they'd probably kill you or something. ;-P - DJ_Huero, May 3, 2011
Perhaps Lovely L could tell us what is written on the flag. - Yeser007, May 4, 2011

Let me tell you that back in the 80's or early 90's someone played a joke on the Postal Office staff of a city in Texas, I don't recall the name of the city, but this appeared in the news.

They would raise the flag every day for a week or so until the realized they were raising the Chilean flag instead of the Texan. smile snake LOL

Check out these two. First one is the Hawaii state flag. The second one is Britain.

Actually, I think that this is the Arizona state flag:

The only U.S. flag to feature the Union Jack of the UK is that of Hawaii. This of course is no coincidence as Hawaii was still a protectorate of Great Britain up until the middle half of the 19th century.

In any case, it certainly bears an uncanny resemblance to one of the early continental flags (Grand Union Flag, 1775)

To be honest, and based on historical events of not only Chile and Texas but the United States as well, I would imagine that both flags, in their creations, probably took at least some inspiration from the U.S. flag as well.

Hmmm, i'm going to read up on this now...

The influence of both the French Revolution and American Revolution (USA) on the subsequent revolutions that occurred during the early part of the 19th century in South and Central America have been fairly well documented.

Here are a couple of quick sources which both make mention of this influence

Independencia de Chile

Acta de la Independencia de Chile

R O F L! I heard about that... can you imagine seeing that on a government document? Much less having to be the guy to say, "ummm, guys, y'all screwed up." jaja - DJ_Huero, May 3, 2011

In the post of Izanoni1 , I may think Hawaii was a country as well. It was a kingdom?

I might mistake Chile and Texas may have the same creator. I like the sentence of Izanoni1.
