"Me and my friends" sounds just as bad in Spanish as it does in English.
My friends and I are thinking of starting a new idea for the class project..... Mis amigos y yo estamos pensando en comenzar una nueva idea para el proyecto de la clase.

When two verbs are together the second is left with -ar, er or whatever. we also use empezar. - emmarichard, May 2, 2011
If you are meaning the "estamos pensando", then, no, you are wrong. That is the present progressive. "Estamos pensar" would be wrong. - Azabache, May 2, 2011
