Fidel Castro

It occurred to me this morning that "El Señor," as they call Fidel in Cuba, has the appropriate name as "Castro" is also a conjugation of the verb "Castrate," which Fidel has certainly done to the Cuban people.

Sí, estoy de acuerdo... muy bien!! - 001a2987, Jun 19, 2011
Actually, the funny thing is that he tried out for major league baseball in the States but was rejected by Tommy Lasorda, who said that Castro would never amount to anything as a baseball player. - vivalafuriaroja, Jun 20, 2011
good thing since he had so many more important things to do like free Cuba from an arbitray dictator. - blazinbilly252, Jun 20, 2011

I think that you should read what kind of man Fidel help to over throw, and some of the great things he has done in Cuba. Batista was a real a**

Who is talking about Batista?

education systems in the world (better even than the U.S, the richest and most powerful country in the world)!

Are we talking about how biased it is?

Cuba is free of drug and gangs

big surprise

Fidel has done many great thing,

Oh, yes, so did Hitlerwink

but I can't think of anyway in which Fidel is a evil man.

Well, don't get me started then, as I can think of a hundred ways! mad

Algo tiene que cambiar. Y no es Fidel.

Oh well, then let him continue with his dictatorship, wonderful wink I am sure the Cubans are enjoying it. rolleyes

How anybody can be in favour of a dictatorship is quite beyond me,

To end this I'll leave you with a little quote from Fidel Castro."Condenadme, no importa, La historia me absolverá."

I don't seem to be the only one to put them all in the same bag:

Kim Il-Sung is gone. Deng Xiaoping has passed on to those glorious riches in the sky. Hitler, Mussolin, Peron, Khrushchev, Kadar, Franco and Tito -- all, long departed. But Fidel Castro, like "Ol' Man River," he just keeps rolling along. We know why the Great Mississippi keeps rolling, but how does Fidel -- now the longest-served leader of any country in the world, and a man who has all but destroyed his country with his manifold caprices -- do it?

For those who can read Spanish well:

Adolfo Hitler/ Fidel Castro: ¿Reencarnacion?

You should read La History Me Absolvera, and what Fidel truly believes in, freedom and democracy. Then maybe you can understand why in country with a long history of rebellion has kept the Cuban Revolution in power. - blazinbilly252, Jun 20, 2011
I agree! So many people just refuse ro form a measured opinion by informing themselves of 1) the objective facts and 2) the perspective of the Other Side. Poor Cubans started to flee thw country after decades of relentless attack had transformed Fidel. - notsmart, Oct 22, 2012

I just want to add another post here, since I have customers that have come from Cuba.

Blazinbilly252 I don’t know where you are getting your facts from, but the customers that I talk with have a very different opinion than what you are purporting as truth.

If Castro is so good, why is Miami full of Cubans?

I guess they like the guy so much, they just wanted to spend days at sea trying to leave Cuba because it was a pleasant day for a boat ride.

Just one more thing, don’t ever go to Miami and tell anyone your thoughts about Castro!

I think that you should read what kind of man Fidel help to over throw, and some of the great things he has done in Cuba. Batista was a real a** and Cuba has one of the best medical and education systems in the world (better even than the U.S, the richest and most powerful country in the world)! Cuba is free of drug and gangs while in many Latin American countries they struggle to gain any kind of control over the drug cartels. Fidel has done many great thing, his perseverance and love for his country has made Cuba a much better place. But anyways we all have are own opinions on the world; but I can't think of anyway in which Fidel is a evil man.

The Cuban government is most powerful gang in Cuba. I wuold say that Castro is evil based on the fact that his subjects tend to want to escape, even risking their life to do so. If he was so great, why would people want to flee? - vivalafuriaroja, Jun 20, 2011

This thread was originally started as the notation of a simple play-on-words, but since it has been turned into a serious debate, I would just like to say that I feel for people everywhere who suffer from brutal rulers, and there are many of them. And some are worse than others.

Of course there is not this and there is not that in Cuba, but Cubans would not dare to acquire them either. A man in Cuba is not even allowed to operate his own sugar cane business. If he is caught cutting and selling cane on his own, he goes straight to prison. Sure, a dictatorship is the most efficient government in the world, but it comes at a very high price.

My limited knowledge of life in Cuba comes not from reading about it, but from accounts from Cuban friends I have had.

PS: And if Cubans are hungry, it´s not from the US embargo. This rediculous embargo has done nothing. Cuba can still get all the food and goods it wants from Canada - they´re trading partners along with many other countries. If Cubans are hungry, it´s because they can´t afford to buy food. The tourists who stay in the all the luxury, beach-front hotels there have no problem eating.

so what's the "rest" of the story mr. finkler? - la-araña-discoteca, Jun 19, 2011
I live in Bolivia and Evo has said some crazy things and has little respect for true democracy. - ian-hill, Jun 19, 2011
Ian, I urge you to read some Bolivian hostory and see if those that came before Evo had "respect for true democracy." And Evo is the manifestation of a true electoral democracy. Yes, he was elected - contrary to what you might want to believe. - la-araña-discoteca, Jun 20, 2011

Well it seems that I have cause a lot of havoc here which was not my intent. But I wish to explain myself.

"PS: And if Cubans are hungry, it´s not from the US embargo"

Cubans don't go to bed hungry. Some foods are rationed, but Cubans definitely are not starving,

"I am wondering if Castro has done such a great job for the people of Cuba, why did Cubans leave by the thousands in leaky boats for a chance at freedom???"

Why do people from Haiti, Dominican Republic, Central America, and South America come to the U.S.? Is it because they all have failed governments and the whole of Latin America is unable to rule itself??? Certainly not!!( I'll leave this at that because it's far to complicated and political to give a just answer.)

"Who is talking about Batista?"

How can you talk about Fidel without talking about Batista? He was one of history''s most vile and indignant humans ever to walk the earth. He stoled money from Cuba, aligned himself with gangsters like Lucky Luciano, and use the army against his own people. Thank God for Fidel.

"Are we talking about how biased it is?"

How can things like chemistry, and mathematics be bias?? The Cuban people have right to attend college for free!!!

"Oh, yes, so did Hitler"

Do you think killing millions of Jews and starting a world war is great?? There is no comparing Hitler to Fidel. One of them was a racist the other a humanitarian. One of them believed in genocide the other in liberation.

To end this I'll leave you with a little quote from Fidel Castro."Condenadme, no importa, La historia me absolverá."

Thank you, La-araña-discoteca. What about this try?:) - migelis, Jun 20, 2011
Not quite. You can say, "There are more of his kind/ilk - one in...... But when you say it like that it isn't entirely clear who "guys" is referring to. It still reads a bit strange. - la-araña-discoteca, Jun 20, 2011
It is still grammatically correct, it just doesn't sound right. Also, in your second sentence, you can get rid of the second "in." - la-araña-discoteca, Jun 20, 2011
now maybe you can correct anything I said wrong in Spanish. That would be nice :)) - la-araña-discoteca, Jun 20, 2011
Wow, thanks a lot, La-araña-discoteca! I like the word "ilk", It's new for me. I'd help you with your Spanish in some five years, because I've been learning it just for three month:)) - migelis, Jun 20, 2011

Julian, this is not directly related to your post, but I had the opportunity to meet a wonderful Cuban couple last Friday while working in the storm assistance operation in my community. We were working together loading supplies when I heard them speaking Spanish and asked them where they were from. They worked very hard assisting others in the neighborhood. They were a joy to work with.

I really enjoy meeting people across national boundaries. It helps me realize how similar we all are.

"and a man who has all but destroyed his country with his manifold caprices"

Me gusta 1984. - blazinbilly252, Jun 20, 2011
I wish more people would take the time out to learn about our American brothers in Latin America and draw their own conclusions as you have. Far too many people rely on propaganda and lies as their only source of infomation. - blazinbilly252, Jun 21, 2011
