What does the word "los otavalos" mean?

Here's how it is used in my book: "Entre los artesanos de Hispanoamérica se destacan los otavalos, un grupo indígena de Ecuador que produce mantas y telas."

Otavalo is a region in Ecuador, so los otavalos are people from there.
