Los niños cocinaron la cena para su madre.

.

La hermana viajó a Italia.

.

A la madre le gustaba enseñar. .

Los niños tuvieron trabajo. or "Los niños estuvieron trabajando". (I don't know the English to make sure which one is right for you).

.

Los niños pagaron la operación.

If you want to say that they paid for part of it, it would sound a lot better if you say: "Los niños pagaron una parte de la operación". Yours is gramatically correct though, just not the way i would say it.

not sure you need "una" profesora, because it's not needed with SER, and it would be los niños tuvieron QUE trabajar? or trabjado if your trying to say "they had worked"
