Ok, pues, busco una palabra equivalente para "manifestation"- el diccionario dice hacer presete, pero eso me sueña demasido informal para un ensayo
Mi frase: "In this way, descriptions of torture manifest themselves in the language and the structure of the novel"
En español: "En esta manera, las descripciones de la tortura hacen presente (?) en la lenguaje y la estructura de la novela"

If you want to stick with "manifest themselves", it is perfectly acceptable and correct to say "se manifiestan".

"manifestante" - demonstrator / manifestar(se) to demonstrate, to be demonstrated (literal translation). The word can be "protest", depending on context. - mountaingirl123, Apr 25, 2011
