Go out there and speak Spanish!

Go out there and speak Spanish!

The best and fastest way to learn Spanish is to speak Spanish in the real world as often as you can. Eliminate the fear of making mistakes and thinking you will appear a fool -- you won't.

There is no Grammar Sheriff that is going to come running out from behind a tree and put you on a stage in front of a group of native Spanish speakers and make fun of you -- for having used "por" instead of "para" or using the "Indicative tense" instead of the "Subjunctive tense". This is a Irrational Belief you need to overcome -- in fact the opposite is is true. Let me prove it to you.

Look how many native Spanish speakers here on Spanishdict help all of us Spanish students; no matter what level of Spanish we are at. The same is true in the real world. When you are out there speaking Spanish with native speakers they will say "You speak Spanish really well." even if you are just beginning to learn the language. They will also gladly help you and a correct you in a pleasant manner. No one will ever make fun of you or ridicule you; that never happened to me, and it won't happen to you.

So ..... excuses be gone.

Our native Spanish speakers here are very encouraging as are the grading staff. We are so fortunate to belong to such a great website.

Thank you for this post, Daniel. It is very motivating.

Yes, Excellent advice, Daniel You have both inspired and challenged us to practise our Spanish and use what we already know smile I have found native Spanish Speakers generally very encouraging towards my best efforts to speak their language I have experienced more negativity from English people who laughed because I even bothered to learn another language.

We are very blessed with so many kind, thoughtful and helpful Spanish speaking natives who are only to willing to help us here on the forum eg Heidi, Cogumela, Tom B, Gekkosan, Peinado, Lazarus, and Carlos just to mention a few In the chatroom we also have Dakie, Vincente and Luis on hand to help

This is not intended to be an exhaustive (ie complete) list so if you help here as a native and are not mentioned above please do not feel offended... we still value your contributions and support tremendously! wink smile grin

Everyone one Spanishdict. is great. Don't forget the beginners .. they ask questions, and get answers the have helped me tremendously. - Daniel, Apr 26, 2011
Yes Daniel of course the beginners are helpful too but without the help of native speakers there would be a limit to how far anyone could progress :) - FELIZ77, Apr 26, 2011

Absolutely, Daniel!

If there's something I love about this site, it is that (with maybe a couple of exceptions) everybody is extremely friendly, open, compassionate, and helpful. Not to mention smart and willing to help others! Bravo!

Were you to have looked around, I bet you would have seen Rod Serling standing nearby. - webdunce, Apr 25, 2011
Hubieras mirado alrededor de ti mismo, creo que podrías haber visto a Rod Serling cerca. - webdunce, Apr 25, 2011
I don't know if I have ever used "past perfect subjunctive" in conversation .... maybe ... I don't know. I am sure that having your Spanish conversations are enjoyable. - Daniel, Apr 26, 2011
From the many times you have helped me I know you know your Spanish grammar better than I do. Anymore I just talk and don't think about it. - Daniel, Apr 26, 2011

I must be in the wrong place. Every day I study Spanish and use it.(what little I know). At my work both Spanish speakers and people that know little, or even none at all ,very often laugh ,at my attempts .I will not let this stop me, it just seems that people could be more supportive of this difficult endeavor of learning a new language.I hope very few of you encounter this.I never belittle or laugh at someone who is attempting to communicate with me in my language. This is not a sob story .I will not ever quit trying .

Check out a Post I made called "Funny Spanish Story" dated Mar 28 2009. This is true, and these mistakes made learning Spanish even more fun. - Daniel, Apr 26, 2011
