"Compostela" from the phrase "Santiago de Compostela" I believe is an important phrase in Spanish History. I think it means something like "Saint James's Field of Stars" Can you help please? -jacktar.

Compostela is the former name of the city called today Santiago de Compostela. It belongs to the province of La Coruña, and also is the capital of Galicia (Comunidad autónoma). Saludos desde Madrid.

Thank you for that. But where does the field of stars come in? I understood they appeared over the position where Saint Jameses remains were dicovered! - jacktar, Apr 24, 2011

Hi jacktar!

It probably means Santiago (Saint James) from composita tella, more than Saint James from Campus Stellae. But many people believe the second option.

Many thanks but I understood Campus Stellae was the place where the field of stars were seen! - jacktar, Apr 24, 2011
