Type in sandwich and you don't get, Emparedado as a definition. Type in Emparedado and you get = sandwich.

sandwich = sándwich , bocadilla, torta

Those I have heard. Is Emparedado exactly the same thing? Gracias....

I spent a little bit of time volunteering in northern Costa Rica, and this is the word that the local volunteers tended to use. One of them pointed out to me that the word for wall (pared) is within the word, and explained that the slices of bread on a sandwich are kind of like walls smile

Yes, I've seen this word used to decribe the location of people or things that are surrounded by walls. - mountaingirl123, Apr 23, 2011

I believe it's more of a thin-sliced sort of sandwich, like if you take a loaf of French bread and slice it thin.

I've only seen this word in print; maybe it's used all the time by cultured people and I only hang out with riff-raff (as was suggested a few months ago when I posted about another topic LOL )

Emparedado=Sándwich=sánguche=samwich=sáduche=bocadillo - depending on where you are.

Torta is the weirdest denomination to me. I think they only use that for sandwich in Mexico.
