I am having a new tattoo that I want it in spanish. I want to know if this phrase is;

  1. Grammatically correct
  2. As close a translation as possible or is there a more common equivalent?

" La vida es una solá " --- "You only have one life"

Gracias T.

You don't need a tilde on the "a" in "sola".

In Spanish, it's more common to use "Solo se vive una vez".

So its gonna be two banners reading "To Thine Own Self Be True" intertwined with "solo se vive una vez "

I lost two friends and a husband in the last year and these words mean SO much to me

If I could post I photograph I would xxx

Thank you for your help

Come on. We're all more interested in where you are going to put it than what it says! :-) - 0074b507, Apr 23, 2011
That's beautiful, Tessa. I wish you the very best. - --Mariana--, Apr 23, 2011

Please think about a tattoo for at least a year before you actually walk into a salon. You mind will change a dozen times during that time.

If you still want the same one after a year, then, hey, maybe it's what you really want.

Mariana - I appreciate your concerns but once you have had your first tattoo, its addictive - I love my tattoos - but please know that I am a professional woman and I love knowing that under my business suit, I have something UNUSUAL - thank you - tessab68, Apr 23, 2011
A tatoo salon? How upscale! A woman's viepoint? I thought that they were tatoo parlors? However, a piercing salon sounds right. - 0074b507, Apr 23, 2011

Would " solo se vive una vez " be closer to " you only live once" ?

Closer? Are those expressions really that different? - lazarus1907, Apr 23, 2011
Yes, tessa. It is in fact an almost word-for-word translation. - Oramasdude, Apr 23, 2011
