[Él] es el niño.... ella es la niña de los ojos de sus padres (padres ojos...that's pretty English...where is the apostrophe??) - 0074b507, Apr 23, 2011
Qfreed, I thought it would be el niño here too, but I looked it up and it seems it's always "la niña" - --Jen--, Apr 23, 2011
I do need the apostrophe, right--padres' like that? - sanlee, Apr 23, 2011
No, you do not say padres ojos was my point. That is what we would say in English. - 0074b507, Apr 23, 2011
I see your point. It is an idiom. In that case I would include the subject pronoun Él es la niña de .... - 0074b507, Apr 23, 2011
Ok, now I've used te subject pronoun. So you don;t want me to say padres--just sus???? - sanlee, Apr 23, 2011
possession in Spanish uses de.... el sombrero de Maria. los ojos de sus padres=his/her/your parent's eyes. Whose exactly is taken from context. Possessive adjectives (sus) are not normally used with body parts (but can be...as in the idiom) - 0074b507, Apr 23, 2011
I think the "niña" here refers to the pupil of the eye :). Wordreference says: Niña: 2 Anat pupil figurado es la niña de sus ojos, - --Jen--, Apr 23, 2011
So do I say El es la niña de sus ojos....but whose ojos are we talking about??? I think we need the sus padres. - sanlee, Apr 23, 2011
nametaken: I read that also. The RAE dict. lists niña as the pupil of the eye, so it refers to the eye literally and figuratively. - 0074b507, Apr 23, 2011

Jen I'm sure you're right and I have also seen crecer used to mean grow up but I was just wondering is 'crecer' the common equivalent of 'grow up' as in 'mature' as well as grow or is it crecerse or would something like madurar be more common? - Kiwi-Girl, Apr 23, 2011

Me gusta la canción, ¿Dónde jugarán los niños? de Maná.
