I write all the words I want to memorize on a sticky note using water soluble ink. Then I stick that piece of paper to my forehead before going to sleep at night.

When I wake up, the words are gone from the paper, and I miraculously remember all the words.

Amazing stuff, really.

Just be careful about the colors you use. I find that the words I write in thick black marker sound kind of gloomy when I pronounce them, the ones I write in pink make my voice sound girlish, and when I write in red the words sound kind of angry.

Well blue and grey always make me sound too melancholy; people say I sound pompous when I use purple and yellow makes me sound way to chipper early, especially early in the morning.....So what colors would you suggest I use? - Izanoni1, Apr 21, 2011
Gekkosan, I love you. Your sense of humor has won my heart. Izanoni, try turquoise. - Luzbonita, Apr 21, 2011
Why, thank you Prettyglimmer! Good suggestion. Of course, a Royal Blue is muy macho! :) - Gekkosan, Apr 21, 2011

Confusing Spansh spelling? Such as...? The only spelling problems one can have in Spanish are c/z/s, b/v, g/j and h, since you cannot determine the correct spelling just from the sounds. Otherwise, there is only one way to write a word from the sound of it.

Spelling is the easiest part of Spanish, but learners have difficulty in remembering how the words are pronounced as well. - lorenzo9, Apr 21, 2011

I print out the flash cards and fold them so I can only see the english side, then I write the english word and try to write the spanish word. I get some right and I get some wrong. I keep doing that until I get them all right. It takes a lot of time and a lot of paper, but it works for me. When I have the english - spanish done on a set of cards then I will look at the spanish word and write the english word.

I have not always done this but when I do, it works every time and I am going to start over again with lesson 1.1 and do them all.

A long time ago I read that if you do something 17 times, you will learn it. Sounds about right to me.

Try sticking them to your forehead! :-) - Gekkosan, Apr 21, 2011
I tried that, but it didn't work. My 3 chihuahuas ate the notes and now they will only obey commands in Spanish - Ron_Austin, Apr 21, 2011
Ah yes. Eating them works even faster, but it's less pleasant. And then the color of ink and paper may have interesting gastric results. - Gekkosan, Apr 21, 2011

Spanish is spelled exactly how it sounds. That's one of its great beauties. Do they even give spelling tests in Spanish schools?

Oh! Another breaking news!!

Please tell me how you do it in English!! Because apparently that's the difficult one due to the difference between its spelling and its pronunciation.

Just learn how the sounds are pronounced in Spanish, then with no need of thinking you will be able to spell it.

Just one example -- simply trying to pronounce the "gh" in daughter, rough, ghost, etc., is a challenge. - --Mariana--, Apr 21, 2011
Exactly. - culé, Apr 21, 2011
How about "daughter" and "laughter" or "dough" and "rough" - Izanoni1, Apr 21, 2011
"Though", I still think that it's easier (!) than Spanish. :p - culé, Apr 21, 2011

What is with all the snarky responses people post to questions lately?

The poster is asking for advice in spelling and the sarcastic responses don't come across as funny or friendly.

I'm not sure that I understand your question.

You'd memorize the spelling of a Spanish word the same way that you memorized the spelling in English: practice reading and writing the words.

If you want to talk about confusing, just take a look at English spelling!
