The same as in english. 1) Select some kind of writing instrument. Wood-wrapped graphite rods are a popular choice that supports an "undo" feature, but ink-based implements are available with a wide variety of colors, tip shapes, and ink viscosities.
2) Grip it on your hand kindof like you would hold the top chopstick when eating chinese food.
3) Holding the implement firmly, press the tip to the surface on which you want to write the letter.
4) Maintaining firm but steady pressure, drag the tip across the paper; you'll know if you're doing it right because it will leave a line behind.
5) Continue as in 4, moving the tip across the paper to trace out the shape of the desired letter. Diagrams of some of the more popular letters can be found here

Actually there are a few things to know about writing a letter in Spanish, such as the things you should say for salutations and greetings.
There is a good resource for that here:http://spanish.about.com/od/writtenspanish/a/correspondence.htm
Gather your thoughts, write them down, and send the letter. Do this in the language of your choice.
