"I made lots of enemies"

**Hi- can anyone tell me if the following translation is correct please for the following sentence: "I made lots of enemies" - Me hice muchos enemigos.
Also, is it better to say: "Tuve muchos enemigos".
I know that the two sentences have slightly different meanings but I'm not sure which one flows better.

Tenía muchos enemigos. I had many enemies.

Tuve que + the infinative of the action verb when expressing something that you had to do as a one off but if it was something that you had to do on a regular basis at some time in th past you would use tenía que. - kenwilliams, Apr 19, 2011
