Correct my sentence please (use of sino)

No es coincidencia sino destino que ahora misma el carro de ella necesita gasolina.

I was trying to say: It is not a coincidence but fate that right now her car needs gasoline.

Yes, I think it works here. You're saying "It isn't (a) coincidence, rather fate, that right now her car needs gasoline". There is a contradiction here, so you can use "sino". There wouldn't be a painstaking issue using pero, but "sino" is fine.
