Abog is right - but the sentence does not mean "to catch up with one another" (ponernos al día), but to update them (ponerlos al día).

No, but is close equivalent in my opinion - BellaMargarita, Apr 17, 2011
Huh? - Gekkosan, Apr 17, 2011
I think Samdie is addressing Bella's comment here, not clarifying your post. - webdunce, Apr 17, 2011

poner al día = to bring up to date (or simply, update)

ponerse al día = to get up to date (a kind of to bring oneself up to date)

Grammatically similar, perhaps, but the meaning is quite different. "Tenemos que ponernos al día." is "We have to catch up with one another." "Tenemos que ponerlos al día." is "We have to bring them up to date."

Exactly. - Gekkosan, Apr 17, 2011
I am curious. I thought tha's exactly what I said. In any event, it is what I *meant* to say. Why isn't it clear? Evidently I am missing something here... - Gekkosan, Apr 17, 2011

such a coincidence, I was watching a movie that said that exact sentence and I wanted to know what it meant. (Only about an hour ago)
