Trailing off...

Question

What would the nearest translation for;

He was so tired his voice kept trailing off.

And It's my father's voice trailing off.

estaba cansado por lo que su voz se apagaba mantiene. Says the translator.

Y es la voz de mi padre apagaba

So I guess all I'm asking is does apagaba fit the bill here.
