I believe no sé qué esperar translates roughly to I don't know what to expect.

If you want to say I don't know if I can wait for him, then try saying no sé si puedo esperar a él. (not 100% sure on this one)

I would think that it would be, "No sé si puedo esperar," but it's always possible I'm incorrect.
