Six degrees of separation here.
Redondo , round like an object is round. Ronda, round like let's buy a round a drinks, or this is the last round, or let's go do our rounds (work) before we go out and get a few drinks. Ronda, let's patrol the area. Salir de ronda - let's go out on patrol, patrol around. Patrullar, to patrol. Same as "salir de ronda". This is all right? Gracias.

Seems to me that you've got it right. I hope Lazarus posts one of his wonderful etymological explanations of the relationship between the different words you have mentioned in your post. They are all related to the concept of circle, or roundness, of course.
