"Vivir en blanco" translation
Can anyone translate this expression? If I'm not mistaken it has a figurative meaning.

I'm just a beginner Spanish student, so I'm guessing here...... I wonder if it means something to do with it being difficult to live above poverty level in Argentina. For example: It's a problem to live above poverty level in Argentina." or, here's another thought... "It's a problem to live within one's means in Argentina."
I hope the experts will adress this.. I'm curious what it actually means! ![]()
Well, "vivir en blanco" as I know it means "to be poor" or "live with nothing". (Cuban/ Puerto Rican based Spanish)
I would say applying it to your extract here, the president is saying it's a problem to live in Argentina with nothing. As in, he doesn't like to see his people live in poverty. ![]()
I've read that "en blanco" can mean to have not eaten, to be half-starved. I don't know if this helps?
I'm not sure. This is the extract: ""Es un problema vivir en blanco en la Argentina", concluyó ayer la presidenta Cristina Fernández al defender la compra de 2 millones de dólares efectuada por su esposo Néstor Kirchner en octubre de 2008."
