The spanish is: por un plazo determinado de tiempo

Does this mean in a more literal sense "for an undetermined amount of time"?

Actually, it looks like it literally means: "for a determined period of time" (for a specified amount of time).

I think "for a while" is "por un rato"...if I'm not mistaken.

But, I have learned I can be totally mistaken where Spanish is concerned...

This book I am reading has the translation on the adjoining page and that is how they translated. They use some very unusual spanish and it does not translate straight across. - foxluv, Apr 13, 2011
