As far as I can tell, it should be written "Mi hija", but since the H has no sound, those two consecutive I sounds fuse into a single one (this is called synalepha), so it sounds like "mija". Writing "mi hija" like "mija" is a bit like writing "anour" instead of "an hour" because the H is silent.
It's a contraction for Mi hija, literally: my daughter, my girl.
Mija. It's used like "Dear", but it is something you would say to your daughter, not your girlfriend.
