Recommendations for movies in Spanish

What movies in the Spanish language do you recommend?

I have seen several movies in Spanish that were all good movies. However, they have all been either bittersweet or downright tragic and depressing. Have you seen any that weren't so sad?

Thanks

*By the way here are some movies I have seen that I would recommend: Volver, La Historia Oficial, Pan's Labyrinth (El laberinto del fauno), Mar Adentro ...but like I said, they are bittersweet

I seem to have the same problem, finding mainstream Spanish-language movies that aren't hard-hitting dramas that is - TheSilentHero, Apr 12, 2011

Want to see something funny? Check out "Ladron que roba a ladron", "Mala uva", "Recién cazado" or "only human" (all are really, really funny. Want to see a really nice movie? La misma luna (Under the Same Moon). All are available on Netflix and I think all but La misma luna can be viewed on streaming.

9 reinas is good- anything from Ricardo Darín, actually. El secreto de sus ojos, El aura... etc. He's SUPER famous in Argentina.

La historia oficial is tragic because the history of the desaparecidos is tragic. Another that's really good on the same topic is Cautiva.

I also enjoyed Sin nombre, Amar te duele and Voces inocentes. Though hispanic cinema tends to be a little darker and less.. Hollywood for lack of a better explanation.

If you want something foofy and light try looking for Cansada de besar sapos or Amor: primera parte.

Hope that helped. If not- Netflix has a zillion. =]

Casi Divas --una película mexicana--mostly very funny but with serious and thoughtful notes here and there.

Nueve Reinas (9 Queens). To be honest I'm only about half way through but it's so far an entertaining crime movie about 2 cons.

I think it depends on your Spanish level. I started off watching films like Volver and Pan's Labyrinth and found these too difficult - of course watching with subtitles helps a lot.

What I actually found really useful was watching Disney films on YouTube - there is a good guide here on some of the best ones.
