Surely you meant "flores" and "calor", right? - lazarus1907, Apr 11, 2011

Literally, tengo does mean "I have", however, some expressions which in english use "to be" in spanish use "to have". So, the literal translation of tengo hambre, is "I have hunger", in english we would say "I am hungry".

I wonder if you meant "tengo calor", literally "I have heat", translated, "I am hot"

I think ! I am just learning myself so stand to be corrected !

Like the difference between Ser and Estar, an equally confusing topic (for learners of Spanish) is the difference between Tener and Haber. Type both of these verbs into the dictionary on this site and it will show you examples and how they are conjugated.

Welcome to the forum!

The words you mention are conjugated forms of the verb "tener" or "to have".

This site provides and good page indicating the verb tenses. Here is a link to the page for "tener".

link text

tengo - first person, present tense, singular tiene - third person, present tense, singular

You can follow it on the page.

You can also use the translator on this site for the phrase you mentioned.

Hope that helps!
